Thank you!
How is that?
This expressions are more polite than just “what”, in fact! Thank’s Ana!
They sure are, Aninha!
I don’t know why but “I beg your pardon” is my favourite hahah
I love the podcasts and everything that ana writes in (?) english online. As some readers i never pay attetion to the ideal words for a pollite conversation. I like it so much, yhanks.
como assim?
Tell me how!
Hi everyone, thanks for the comments.
Arnaldo – obrigada pela ajuda.
No sentido daqui do site, eu usaria TIP em vez de hint. Tip é uma dica.
Hint tem mais sentido de pista c/ significado de ajudar a elucidar algo (tipo as pistas q o Sherlock Holmes encontrava)
Obs.. tem dicionário que lista tip e hint como sinônimos (não é minha experiência)
Maybe “hints” can be translated to “dicas” in Portuguese, Valdirene. Anyway, let’s wait for Ana Luiza’s answer.
How are you Ana? I liked vary much of the expression ‘how so’, it’s great we have this words. But I’ll like to know what mean ‘hints’.
Hello Ana! Your tips are always very good.
Thanks a lot!!
Nice hints !!! But we need to take care when we´re talking another language…i think you always may be polite, wherever you are !!! It´s better !!!
Muito elucidativo.Domenica
Hi everyone!
Would be wrong to say “where are you getting at?” ?
Tanks.
Interesting! I didn’t know anything about the existence of “how so?!”, “I beg your pardon?” (it seems like French, at least this last word; maybe English borrowed it) and “I don’t follow”. I think the translation to “what?” sounds impolite in Portuguese too, except in an informal speech. Thank you once again Ana for sharing this with us.
